Jo Lanier Meeks Atlanta, Georgia
A Georgia native, Jo Meeks attended the University of Georgia, earning a B.B.A. degree in accounting (summa cum laude) in 1976 and a juris doctor degree from the School of Law (cum laude) in 1979. She was a founding partner of Pursley Lowery Meeks LLP in 1989. From 1979 until 1989, she was an associate and partner in the litigation department with the national firm of Kutak Rock & Huie (now Kutak Rock) in its Atlanta office. Jo practices in areas of securities, commercial, financial institutions-related and real estate-related litigation. She represents parties in civil disputes in state and federal courts, primarily in Georgia, and before arbitration and other ADR panels. Jo handles cases involving stockbroker and broker-dealer liability, restrictive covenants, contract disputes, lender liability, and insurance broker and accountant liability. She also represents condemnors and condemnees in eminent domain litigation in Georgia. Jo is a frequent speaker and faculty member at seminars sponsored by various organizations on topics of securities litigation and arbitration, trial practice and eminent domain in Georgia. She is past Chair of the Litigation Section of the Atlanta Bar Association and has served a three-year term on the State Bar of Georgia Investigative Panel. In addition to local state courts, she is admitted to appear before local federal courts, the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Supreme Court.
